National Bowling Stadium Hotels

As bowlers and visitors enter on Center Street, they are greeted by an impressive four story lobby. Right inside is a bronze sculpture presented by the Brunswick Corporation to the Stadium which depicts the family on their way to bowling. The whimsical statue is a favorite picture backdrop for visitors. Two glass elevators and an escalator provide easy access for the bowlers and their equipment to reach the fourth floor Tournament Level.

More on the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, NV

The city of Reno and the state of Nevada may be known as a gambling destination, but many may not realize that this city is home to the largest bowling facilities in the United States, the incredible 78-lane, 363,000-square foot National Bowling Stadium. The span from one end of the 78 lanes to the other is longer than a football field. Seating is also available for 1,100 spectators.

The facility is easy to see with an 80-foot aluminum geodesic dome made to look like a bowling ball sticking out of the building. The facility opened in 1995 as part of Reno’s desire to start closing its gap with Las Vegas for tourist dollars. It is conveniently located, as it is within walking distance of 6,600 rooms and a 10-minute drive from Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

Those looking to purchase bowling-related items such as the latest balls and shoes will enjoy a visit to the impressive 11,000-square foot Lane 81 Pro Shop, so called Lane 81 because the facility originally consisted of 80 lanes before the two center lanes were removed and changed into an aisle for bowlers to march out for premier events.

Local bowling is not available here in order for the facility to not compete with local centers, but you will receive an opportunity to bowl here if you enter a tournament that takes place at the facility. However, if that is not possible, simply visiting the stadium and walking around will serve as a memorable, awe-inspiring experience.

Several movies have filmed bowling segments here, while “Kingpin,” a popular 1996 film staring Woody Harrelson, Bill Murray and Randy Quaid, gave the facility considerable notice as the popular movie saw its climactic grand finale take place here. Other notable films shot here include “Father’s Day” and “Greedy.”

Whether or not you are a bowling aficionado, this facility is well worth a visit. This is especially true if you are visiting the area and staying at one of the several hotels located downtown, as it is extremely convenient from these locations. However, if you are a bowling enthusiast, this facility is an absolute must-see and visiting it will be an unforgettable experience.
