Cycling in Reno-Tahoe
Due to the climate, the hills and the "wild west" outdoor attitude of Nevadans, mountain biking and road cycling are extremely popular in the northern part of the state.
In the Reno-Tahoe area, located just four hours east of San Francisco Bay Area and two hours east of Sacramento, you can find rides for every season of the year and for every level of ability and interest.
The best part of mountain biking is the exploration and discovery of something new-- a spring meadow full of flowers, a hidden stretch of single-track, a slope of golden aspen in the fall, a small creek leading down a deep ravine.
Reno-Tahoe also draws cyclists who prefer to keep their wheels on the road. Greg Lemond, former Tour de France champion, trained in Reno-Tahoe. The Tour de Nez has been the backbone of a cycling tradition here for more than a decade. The terrain, endless quiet country roads stretching for miles into desert and forest horizons, lends itself to long rides.
These are only a few of the surprises awaiting you as you ride through the Reno-Tahoe area. Enjoy your riding, and let this be just a beginning for your exploration!
